Below are some of the General Dental Services we offer:

Mouthguard

Contact sports such as Football, Basketball, Soccer, Hockey and Martial arts are a part of our healthy active Bendigo life, but they can involve heavy knocks to the teeth and mouth. If you or your child is playing a sport where there is a chance of being hit in the jaw or head, wearing a Custom-made mouthguard will help prevent common dental injuries such as chipping, breaking or knocking out teeth, as well as soft tissue injuries such as split lips, cheeks and gums.

If your child is undergoing orthodontic treatment, a mouthguard is critical to help protect their braces and mouth from damage.

Your mouthguard can be professionally made incorporating your favourite colours or can be made clear to be less visible.

If you love your sport and want to protect your child’s smile from sporting injuries, come in to Palm Square/ Bendigo Family Dental Care for a Custom-made mouthguard.

Fillings

White fillings of composite resins, result in restorations that look and feel just like the natural enamel of a tooth. Best of all, they are bonded directly to the tooth, making them strong and long lasting.

Modern dentistry has come a long way. In the past if you needed a filling or a crown, the options were limited to silver amalgam (black metal fillings) or gold restoration. Advances in dental materials now allow our dentists to repair cavities using modern, tooth-coloured fillings or composite restorations. By using fillings made of composite resin, our dentists can give you virtually undetectable fillings. You can have your teeth repaired without a silver smile.

Some patients also come to our dental practice to have existing silver amalgam fillings removed and replaced with composite resin fillings. The replacement of these old fillings not only creates a more-pleasing smile, but also reduces the risks associated with older mercury-filled restorations.

Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment is often the final attempt to save a broken, diseased or traumatic tooth. Once the pulp of a tooth becomes infected by bacteria or becomes irreversibly inflamed, a painful abscess forms at the base of the tooth. The tooth needs treatment if it is to remain in the mouth.

At our practice we make root canal treatments as comfortable as we can for our patients, with the availability of rapid digital radiography, rubber dam and rotary endodontic techniques.

Root canal therapy usually entails one to three visits. During the first visit, the diseased pulp tissue is removed, the inner chamber cleansed and disinfected, and the tiny canals reshaped. The tooth is filled with an anti- inflammatory and anti-bacterial medicament after which it is sealed temporarily.

Once the infection has subsided these canals are filled with gutta percha and sealed permanently.

Most root canal treated teeth require a crown to protect and strengthen the treated tooth.

Speak to one of our dentists to properly assess the suitability and prognosis of this treatment should you require endodontic therapy.

Wisdom Teeth Extraction

Our dental surgeons and the team are experienced in removing troublesome wisdom teeth of all levels of difficulty. From simple extractions to those that may require minor oral surgery, you will be well cared for during and after your wisdom tooth extraction. In circumstances where specialist treatment is necessary, referral to an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon is readily available in Bendigo.

In the relaxed environment of our practices and with the high level of care available, patients usually elect to have wisdom teeth removed in the dental surgery, with the option of Sleep Dentistry.

However for whom Sleep Dentistry is not enough, the option exists to have dental treatment provided by an accredited dentist from our practice, in hospital under General Anaesthetic.

The convenience of our on-site OPG X-ray unit means there is no need for referral to a separate radiology centre for wisdom teeth imaging.

Dentures

The loss of teeth can have negative effects on self-confidence and ability to chew food. Since teeth provide structure and support to the cheeks, tooth loss can result in the sagging of cheeks and make us appear older than we are. It is essential that missing teeth are replaced as soon as possible.

Dentures are removable replacements for teeth, designed to look and function like our own natural teeth and surrounding gum tissues. Modern-day dentures can look very realistic and natural while being comfortable.

Types of Dentures.

A full/complete denture – is used to replace all (missing) teeth.

Complete dentures can also be fixed securely in place by dental implants or mini implants. This provides the confidence to eat without having to worry about dentures coming loose or falling out. More patients seem to be opting for dentures with implants now. Though a significant investment, fixed dentures have a dramatic effect on improving the quality of life. However, for many people dentures alone are a very cost effective solution to the problem of aging teeth and gum disease.

If missing a few teeth, an acrylic or metal partial denture may be used. Partial dentures are secured to adjacent teeth or dental implants.

Dentures are generally fabricated from acrylic resins. With advances in modern cosmetic dentistry, there are a wide variety of materials available for dentures. Our friendly dental team will help you make the best choice for your budget and lifestyle.

How should I look after my Dentures?

It is important to keep dentures clean at all times. Remove dentures at night to give your gums “rest” and the chance to be exposed to natural saliva, which will keep them healthy. It is recommended to brush dentures and soak them in cold water or special soak solution.

Always brush dentures before putting them back into your mouth. It is important to visit your dentist regularly to ensure that your dentures are in good condition and continue to fit your gums. As the shape of your gums and underlying bone change with time, loose fitting dentures can cause irritation and inflammation of your gums resulting in problems with eating and speech.

If you are considering dentures, we invite you to come in for a consultation. We will do an assessment of your condition and provide you with a list of options tailored to your individual needs.
